Retrieve Deleted Client Data

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

HearAid has three levels of backup for client data records:

1.The database backup file. Availability of data from a backup file depends entirely on users making backups! The default setting for HearAid is to prompt the last user disconnecting from HearAid to make a backup. Amazingly enough, it is extremely common for users to neglect making backups; users operating in a Remote Desktop Services environment may also disconnect from a session without closing HearAid, so they may never be prompted to make a backup file. For that reason it is strongly recommended that network users set up a scheduled task that performs backing up automatically.

A backup file can be used to retrieve data from any table in the database, including Client Data, Calendar data and lookup list tables. While powerful, there are important things to remember:

a.A backup file is a snapshot of your database as it was on the date and time it was created. A restored database will not include data added after the backup was created!

b.It is generally not recommended that you restore from a backup to your live database file except as an extreme last resort! There are ways to safely restore to a separate database using the HAConfig utility supplied with HearAid and then access the retrieved data using SQL. You will probably need to contact HearSoft for assistance...

2.You can retrieve deleted Client data stored in a zip file in the Client Archive. HearAid will attempt to automatically dump all a client's data and documents into a zip file before a client is deleted, or when client records are merged. As from HearAid 7.1 zip archive files also contain copied of any Documents linked to the archived client and these will also be regenerated. Unfortunately, there have been situations where the zip file was not created correctly and in that situation, the next option (3) should still allow you to recover the missing data.

This method cannot be used to retrieve deleted Calendar events

3.The Recover function accesses deleted Client and Calendar data that has been copied into the DELETED_ tables within the database immediately before the data was removed from the respective data tables. This function is only available for versions 7.1.x and higher
